obert A. Sowinski

Mr. Sowinski is the founder of and serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Net Lease Development, LLC, Net Lease Associates, LLC, and Acquisition Associates, LLC. Mr. Sowinski is married, has four children, and lives in Greenville, South Carolina.

Mr. Sowinski attended Missouri State University and graduated in l967 with a B.S. Degree with a major in Psychology. Upon receiving a graduate assistantship, he pursued and achieved an M.A. Degree in Counseling Psychology in 1968 from Missouri State University.  After serving for one year as a high school guidance counselor, he attended Valparaiso University, College of Law, in Valparaiso, Indiana, and was awarded the Juris Doctor of Law Degree in l972.

Mr. Sowinski has been actively engaged in residential and commercial real estate development, practicing real estate law and/or teaching real estate courses for approximately 30 years.  He served as Adjunct Professor for Indiana University School of Continuing Education for three years and taught courses dealing with the specific areas of development, acquisition, financing, management of, and the disposition of investment real estate.  While practicing law, he served as the attorney for a Board of Zoning Appeals, a Plan Commission, a Drainage Board, a local Board of Realtors, as well as serving as County Attorney.

During the course of Mr. Sowinski's real estate career, he has negotiated the acquisition of, and/or supervised the development of, a total of approximately fifty million dollars ($50,000,000.00) worth of various types of commercial and investment real estate.  In conjunction therewith, Mr. Sowinski has arranged for approximately forty million dollars ($40,000,000.00) worth of financing in order to facilitate said acquisitions and/or developments. During his career, Mr. Sowinski has directed the long term operations of approximately fifty million dollars ($50,000,000.00) worth of various types of commercial and investment real estate. Additionally, Mr. Sowinski has located the purchasers for and negotiated the disposition of approximately forty million dollars ($40,000,000.00) worth of commercial and investment real estate.

Mr. Sowinski has attended various courses and seminars in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, New York City, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. pertaining to commercial real estate development, commercial real estate financing, commercial real estate law, commercial real estate acquisition, as well as the management of and disposition of commercial real estate.

Mr. Best, in 1984 founded Courtland Construction and Development Companies (“Courtland”). He is a licensed real estate broker with 34 years of experience. Additionally, he is currently or was a general partner or managing partner in 23 real estate partnerships, having up to 20 partners.

While based in South Bend, Indiana, he grew Courtland and made it well-versed in many different types of construction. Projects completed included 12 Office buildings; 125,000 sq. ft. of medical office buildings that included tenant finishes for X-ray and scanning, Physical Therapy, Sleep lab and Brain mapping, Surgery rooms, Labs, Ophthalmology and Optical suite with lens grinding lab, Orthopedic, Otorhinolaryngology suite, Internal Medicine and Family Practice suites; Light Industrial & Warehouse buildings; Retail buildings; and 150 Apartments. 

In 1992, Mr. Best successfully sat for and presented financial documentation to become Courtland’s Primary Qualifier for the State of South Carolina Unlimited General Contractors License. Courtland is presently licensed in and/or doing business in the States of North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, South Carolina, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois. Courtland specializes in the construction of national and large regional Quick Service Restaurants and Causal Dining Restaurant concepts. 

Courtland is managed by a system of hiring people with the experience of having managed or owned companies. Thus, Courtland’s employees know the value of a client. Courtland only wants those who felt the “heat” of satisfying clients, regulators, inspectors and employees, successfully. Courtland treats those individuals as participating partners. The breadth of experience of all project managers centers around restaurant construction. Management has built buildings for 24 different restaurant concepts, from Arby’s to Zaxby’s, including O’Charley’s, McDonalds, Long John Silvers and A&W’s combos, Denny’s, Firehouse Subs, Burger King, Bojangles, Chili’s, Subway, KFC, Friday’s, Perkins, Hardee’s, Pizza Hut, DQ, Damon’s, Bob Evans, IHOP, Ponderosa, Fazoli’s, Boars Head Deli, Bennigan’s, and Lizard’s Thicket. At present, Courtland has nine restaurants in six states under construction. Five of those projects are Zaxby’s Restaurants.

Mr. Best is also a principal in a restaurant operating company in the Upstate of South Carolina.  The company is an Arby’s franchisee that owns and operates 13 restaurants and a convenience store.

Mr. Best and his wife reside in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain foothills in the community of Tryon, North Carolina, located 25 miles east of Asheville, NC.
